So I didn't know of this show until it hit Hulu. I have never felt so immersed and involved in a series like I did with this. This show gives you highs and lows. Didn't know what to expect from this but it took you on a journey . Way to go to Hulu and the BBC. Then they break up. I have cried and laughed and got puzzled, confused, troubled while reading it. It can be hard to capture the words and feeling of a book into a visual and emotional piece of film, and this show does it. Quiet, beautiful, and subtle, just a beautiful piece told perfectly by two absolute stars in the making. The melancholy atmosphere, yearning soundtrack, Misty Irish setting and expansive time span lends the whole experience an epic quality, like a modern War and Peace. The book is pretty divisive and I expect the show to be as well, but every aspect of it is perfect, and I don't say this easily. Though at least they do have on-screen chemistry.
Just binge watched all 12 episodes ... a series that is so emotional and intense, portraying the feelings of young first love...the pain and the pleasure. The miscommunication and misunderstandings are aggravating, Some bits are good but some bits are awful, Series adaption packed ready to make you uncomfortable. It's definitely for a mature audience. It now makes me really want to read the book. Amazing acting by the two main leads. I will go as far as to say this is by far the best series and book adaptation I have ever watched. We’ve spotted a deal that gets you unlimited access to three of the most popular streaming services for about the price of two fancy coffees. Very few love stories make my heart actually ache! The pace of the series is very gentle and tranquil backed by a very gentle score which without your awareness takes your breath away.

In a perfect world, this would be in conversation for Emmy noms and potentially even a win for Paul Mescal and who is imo pitch perfect as Connell, can't believe this is his first gig. I balled my eyes out through the 12 episodes.
It's not an easy-breezy story either, there are parts actually quite difficult to watch and a rawness not many shows/films of a similar nature manage to capture, in my opinion. The last three episodes hit you with a wave of emotions and made me tear up several times and I don't tear up easily. I hadn't read the book this was adapted from but now want to and couldn't imagine anyone else being Marianne & Connell. Can't wait for the next series.
