PhD. Overview. With more than 550 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel's Faculty of Science. We are a research group at the Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland.We are broadly interested in evolution, ecology, and population genetics with a focus on rapidly evolving pathogens such as HIV, influenza virus, or pathogenic bacteria. «AntiResist» has established the following research focus for each of the three phases: The Swiss National Science Foundation is supporting the NCCR in its initial funding phase from 2020 to 2023 with 17 million Swiss francs.
This brings together critical expertise from completely different research disciplines that optimally complement each other in order to tackle one of the major challenges of modern medicine. Using these biomarkers, human tissue culture models are developed for use in the laboratory, which represent the infection process in the body of the patient.

A prerequisite for admission is at least four semesters of undergraduate studies in natural sciences, medicine or technology.The Diploma in Biotechnology is recognized throughout Europe. Tissue samples are taken from infected patients during surgery at the University Hospital Basel. It is jointly offered by the Biozentrum, the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
